that’s a perfect bike to start on, good luck with it, 2003 Sportster 1200 rider :)

Maybe they will be judged as motorcycles that get better gas mileage than the higher revving imports.

The Sportster is a smaller lighter bike with a smaller motor,(883) or (1200) The motor, primary drive and trans are all a shared unit. The Dyna is a “Big Twin” 80″ (1340) or an 88″ for newer models. The motor is a unit, the primary drive is a unit and the trans is a unit. The Dyna is a longer ,bigger and heavier bike than the sporty. Sportsters are ( usually) a first Harley, a stepping stone to a big twin. Some never out grow them but most do. My old lady rode her 1200 for a year or so,then we got her a FXR which is similar( But superior ) to the Dyna. These days I see many chicks on big bikes so as a woman you may start on a Sportster and graduate to a Big Twin just like the boys do. And yes guys who ride Sporties from time to time will get some grief for it.

The big ol’ primary case on the left side. The one thing that they haven’t copied is the separate engine and transmission.

One way to lower your sporty would be to change to progressive shocks. Changing your seat can give you a little less height. Take out too much of your height and your sporty will not handle like it should. And being a sportster fan, that’s what they are all about! QUICK, FAST, AND EXCEPTIONAL HANDLING!

Jenna, I think Easy was on the right track, but your clutch isn’t hydraulically activated, it is done entirely by the clutch cable and a ball and ramp mechanism in the transmission box. But anyway, if the cable is slack and the lever has no resistance when pulled, something broke, end of cable has an attachment to slip into and hold it in place in the transmission, if this or your main spring plate has broken, no tension, also, if you hear grinding while shifting, but have tension, your cable might need adjusting to allow for more travel on the clutch pack. If you have some tension and the primary gets real hot while your riding and the bike doesn’t seem to be as peppy as before, then your clutch might need adjusting-its slipping. Since you really didn’t give us any information this is the best I/we can do for you here. Next time, be a bit more thorough in the information part of the question and many of the seemingly talented folks on here will be able to assist you.

Haiti is an underdeveloped country with bad roads, many of which are blocked by earthquake debris. The Harleys will be completely out of their element there outside of the cities, and even there, it looks more like dual-sport country. Looks like a bonanza for corrupt public officials and the Motor Company.

hey I lost my left lag from just below my knee, you go with a suicide shift and attach the clutch lever to the shifter or get in touch with the people who make ther E.F.M. auto clutch. it turns your clutch into a centrifigal clutch so that when you release the throttle the clutch does not engage. wotks great they have a websight. tell your dad GOOD LUCK, E mail me at chopperchopster@yahoo.com if you have any questions glad to help out if I can

harley subs out subprime they dont want anypart of it only the money.

Mrsjvb July 29, 2011 at 2:43 am

do not expect to make any money at all. Japanese emissions standards are MUCH stricter than ours and there will be extensive modifications you will have to make on it before you can sell it. also there may be regs in place prohibiting you from selling to Locals.

S_W_Y July 29, 2011 at 2:48 pm

I Highly doubt it…Harley doesn’t know negotiation…The dealers that sell at MSRP are empty by the first day of Summer Then start a waiting list….I hear Harley is going to cut back production to increase their value and not flood the market…

Only HD will be able to tell you how many were made. Unfortunately, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, even though its an SE model with low miles, it is also a Road Glide, which was one of HDs worst selling models, they are phasing them out. It is also a 2000 model which is the 88 inch motor with a 95 big bore kit with notoriously bad cam drive failures, HD brought out the 96 inch with majorly updated hydraulic cam drive. The new stock 96 makes considerably more power and is alot more reliable than an old worked up 95.With today’s market and dealers DYING to sell bikes, cutting deals and getting a factory 2 years unlimted mileage warranty, you will be LUCKY to get (stock) $11,400, the NADA listing. Here is the NADA link to your bike……….http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38-5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0118&d=1200003936&y=2000&ml=H&gc=MC&gtc=MC

A Harley – Davidson mother clothes outlet? – they may have some old stock somewhere.

Lets get a couple of things straight here,… 15K on a car per year is not high mileage. Perhaps it is for other states where driving is not a necessity. In Texas it is not uncommon to drive around 20-25K per year. The same goes for Harley riders in Texas,…I have 30K on my ‘06 and its only halfway through 2009. To answer your query, high mileage on a Harley (engine) would be more than 15K per year. The guys that buy the bike and then NOT ride it shouldn’t have bought it in the first place.I see Bart is spewing vacuous, obtuse “facts” again. (the HD engine is not even broke in @ 6-8K)….(edit) too bad that in alot of eastern states you can’t even get your bike wound up in top gear without hitting the state line….or a stop light.
